Resilience in Tough Times

“No matter how much falls on us, we keep plowing ahead. That’s the only way to keep the roads clear.”
― Greg Kincaid

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going”. Billy Ocean

Resilience and endurance are amazing qualities.

I love quotes and I find that they give me strength. These quotes are indeed helping me at this time in history.

I was thinking back today to a time when I met someone who shared with me how much they loved and embraced change. Until that moment, I had never seen change as something to embrace. The comments from this gentlemen were instrumental in helping me to see change in a whole different way.

It was even more profound coming from this person, because he has just experienced something very horrific. I remember thinking that if he could embrace change, then anyone could and I flipped my switch in that very moment.

Now, I am more of an adapter in my life. I accept ‘what is’ and I keep my focus and excitement on where I am headed. I totally understand that, for myself, looking at what was or what I had is futile. It’s all about what I have to work with NOW and how I will use that to create my new reality. My new and bright future. 💥

I guess this is my definition of resilience.

I will close my blog today and I hope you are able to find resilience in your life at this time. Keep your thoughts focused on the positive and the hopeful side. We always, always, have a choice as to where we turn our attention. 🙂

Stay strong everyone and I send you much LOVE~

We Are Strong & Adaptable

― Jodi Picoult, My Sister’s Keeper

Let us always remember that we are stronger than we realize. Challenging times can also challenge us to rethink, to regroup and to adapt to what is currently happening and to the changes that we are experiencing.

We need to be like bamboo and be flexible in our thinking and in our resilience.

I have written about this in the past in my blog post titled “Be Like Bamboo”. Here is the link if you would like to enJOY that post. https://maggieholbik.blog/2017/06/14/be-like-bamboo/

I myself, just reread it, and it seems bang on for the times that we are in right now.

Take care everyone and stay strong but remember to be like bamboo. 🙂

This Surprise Message Stopped Me In My Tracks!

I am at the cottage and I went to my special box where I keep the ‘camp journal’ to make an entry.

We arrived here yesterday and are still trying to heat the place up. There is a lot of snow and this is the earliest we have ever come out here but this is a different time. Usually we don’t come out until sometime in May.

I knew that my camp journal entry today would be historic. Things are very different in the world right now.

♥ Back to the box. ♥ When I opened the box I found this, and it was like a special message from Anne Frank to us, right now when we need it most. I am tearing up writing this. Here was what I saw….

“Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy” Anne Frank

WOW. It literally took my breath away and I knew I had to share it with all of you.

I am so grateful for these words from Anne Frank. And if you know Anne Frank’s story you will know why these words are even more profound. If you do not, please take the time to Google her.

I hope you are grateful for these words from Anne, and that they bring you comfort and peace and this time.

Love to all!

Be Like Bamboo!

Business person with bamboo

“As for the future: I’ll go on believing there is one – maybe even a happy one… Whatever it may be, one thing is for sure – the adventure is not over”.  Lauran Bascall

How we choose to see life now makes a huge difference in how we feel about ourselves and our lives. Do you tend to long for the past or the way things were? Or are you the kind of person who is creating your future in your mind?  Or have you mastered living in the present?

Whatever place we are at, it is always easier if we see the future through the eyes of Hope. Knowing that life is a roller coaster of ups and downs makes it interesting to say the least. We all go through struggles, disappointments, grief, etc., but it’s how we adapt that makes the difference.

I heard a Japanese proverb or such that says that “women are strong like bamboo”. This means that they are adaptable and bending as they go through life and all of life’s challenges. The more we can be adaptable and bendable the stronger we are. Just thinking of this theory, brings me comfort.

Being like bamboo means we also adapt to where we are now and how we see the future. Knowing we have been like bamboo in the past, means we can be strong in the future too. Let us trust in the adventure and remain like bamboo.
