Listen to The Gifts of Pain!

“Those pains you feel are messengers…. Listen to them.” Rumi

Pain Is a Doorway

Pain. Pain and suffering are inevitable things that we will experience here on Earth, regardless of how much we wish to avoid it.

I try to look at pain as a prompt especially if it’s emotional pain. What is this pain telling me? What is the message? Is there something that I want to be doing that I’m not? Am I fulfilled in my life, or is there something I feel that I am missing? Am I feeling overwhelmed? Under appreciated? What do I really want?

The questions that you can ask are endless but I encourage you to probe and search to see the message that pain has for you. And sometimes when our pain is physical it’s a prompt to make changes or to have more self care. There are always messages behind pain and suffering.

I’m going to do a voice audio right now to explain a little more about how we question ourselves and access our inner guide which is as a tool for higher insight. I will post the link below and be sure to have a great day everyone!

Why Not UNchoose?

Maggie, no matter the temptation, you no longer think or say, “I’m anxious,” “I’m hurt,” or “I’m angry.” Because each of these feelings are choices, that can be unchosen, instead of reinforced. And you will be amazed,   The Universe This was my beautiful note from the Universe the other morning and I quite loved it.โ€ฆ

14 Years Ago Today My Life was Forever Changed

Today is my late mother’s birthday. I will forever remember this day in the year 2005. It was the day that I found out I was pregnant. This was the biggest surprise that I have ever had in my life, and the best surprise of course. ๐Ÿ™‚

I was absolutely shocked the day I found this out and it seems like it was just yesterday and a thousand years ago at the same time. It has been such a JOYous journey. Of course there have been the ups and the downs, but the JOY has been immense.

Sivanna was born premature at 32 weeks weighing 3lbs 15 oz. I can still see ‘my little bird’. She was so tiny and we fed her with a syringe.

This whole experience makes me think of two things:

1) Vulnerability

2) Faith & Trust

Not only was my little girl so young and vulnerable but so was I. I felt fragile and my whole world as I knew it changed in that moment when she was born. What I thought would be a JOYous time was actually a very fearful time and I had to have Faith & Trust and that was not easy. One thing that really helped me through this time was a voice that spoke to me one night before I even knew that I was pregnant, but was pregnant… The voice said “Don’t worry I am coming and everything will be okay”. I will never forget the night I heard that energetic voice while gazing at the stars from my hottub. Those words were a catalyst in my getting through the 39 days of Sivanna being in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) until I brought her home.

Another thing that helped me was her Dad who would say “Honey, some day this will just be a memory”. And that turned out to be true.

Me holding my little bird

When I look at this picture and into my eyes I see the fear and yet I see the strength that got this woman through this to what is now just a memory. There were so many great lessons through this struggle and I appreciate every one. I believe in life the greatest trials lead us to the greatest JOYs.

I am forever amazed and how tiny her hand was. A sight I will always remember. That tiny little hand now makes art, scratches my back and also holds my hand. โค

I am also grateful for so many things in my life. I am grateful for my daughter Sivanna Rose. I am grateful for the amazing health care that we received in this beautiful country. I am grateful that that fearful time is indeed now a memory and I’m excited. I am excited for another day on earth. I am excited for what lies ahead for myself and my family.

And Mom, I send you Happy Heavenly Birthday wishes. It will always be special to me that your birthday was the day I found out my life was to be forever changed with the gift of a daughter of my own.

My Mother and I sometime long ago. She died in 1993. Interestingly my daughter’s school is in the background here.

The Gift of Inspiration

On Valentine’s Day my daughter gave me the most beautiful gift. She made both her Dad and I a handmade book full of inspirational quotes. We are to open one a day. She spent a lot of time making these books and we absolutely love them, of course.

This was the back of my book… and she used my proper name so this is an official real book. ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought these quotes will be great to give me ideas for blog posts too. Here is today’s.  I am sure you can figure out that there is a little spelling error and the word should be stronger, not stoner :-). This makes it even more adorable to me. As long as we know what she meant, it’s perfect! I have learned that imperfection is perfect, and if we focus on perfection we will never be the artists of the world… something to ponder on. ๐Ÿ˜‰

strongerhand

I love this quote because it is a great example of life. It’s not a matter of if we will fall or fail, we will! But it’s more important that we keep trying and that we get back up and that we become stronger from the falls and the fails.

Recently someone asked me to be a guest on their TV show sharing my personal story of struggle and hardship through to wellness because they knew I had a story.  I thought about it, listened to my gut, and declined.

I see all of my past experiences as stepping stones that have gotten me to where I am today. The hardships and challenges have made me who I am so I see them as GIFTS! I did not feel I could properly convey myself to share the hardship piece because I don’t feel that way.  I see everything as if it was perfect! It was the contrast I needed to show me what I do want. ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t want to talk about painful stuff. It does not serve me. I am too focused on where I am now and en-JOY-ing the next phase.  I hope this makes sense cause I feel I am having a hard time conveying it for some reason…. but that’s okay, no perfection here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyhow, I am so looking forward to opening these quotes up everyday. What a delight and what a thoughtful gift… the BEST!

Bird Wisdom

Yesterday on a cold, cold day in January as this great Lake of Superior wass forming ice in some spots, closer to shore, I spotted these birds. I think they were ducks, but I am not 100% certain… but pretty certain. The Canadian Geese have gone south already so it can’t be them. If anyone knows though, let me know.

Anyhow, as I watched them, I would see them shaking off the cold water from their bodies every so often. It made me think of that saying “Water off a duck’s back”. But then I thought there is so much wisdom here.

Sometimes these birds are swimming around carefree on a beautiful sunny day without a care in the world, just like us. However, at other times they are swimming in a pool of life’s challenges like this cold and threatening water, or they have to transition to a new location.

I watched them swim around the patches of ice forming, shaking off and continuing on, looking for open water to swim in. This is like us! Sometimes things are easy and sunny and bright and at other times, they are more challenging and we have to move through those times and shake it off, like water off a ducks back.

I hope today’s ‘bird wisdom’ helps you to move through life’s challenges and to ‘shake them off’ when you need to … just like water off a duck’s back. ๐Ÿ™‚

Rise Above to Love

Tonight I had a digital conversation with a coaching client and it brought up a very important topic, one that I think is important for all of us when we need to heal and move forward in life.

I will call my client Rose. We were discussing some pain around Rose and her feelings towards her departed mother. When Rose described to me the way her mother was in her actions, the behaviour that Rose found hurtful and negative, I asked Rose if she herself had ever behaved this way or could be seen this way. She responded with a “Yes”.

I then asked Rose to imagine her own child or children saying this about her 20 years from now. I then told her that she might feel like saying something like this in response “but you don’t understand why I felt like this, please don’t judge me, I need love actually”…

Rose was moved by this and started to shift the way she saw her mother. I also suggested she have compassion for her mother and to energetically hold her mother in her arms and tell her that she did not understand why she did or said the things she did that caused Rose pain, but that she would try to have compassion and understanding for her mother.

I suggested that Rose turn her loathing into love so that she, Rose, could release her own pain.

I also suggested to Rose that she see her Mom as a baby, a young girl, a woman her own age feeling the very inadequacies and pain that Rose herself now feels, and to see her mom as a vulnerable person rather than the mean person Rose saw from her own personalization of her mother that caused HER pain.

I also suggested to Rose that it is way easier to opt for anger and resentment than to Rise Above to Love, but Love will be what sets her free. Anger, blame and resentment are easy opt-ins for most people. I suggested to Rose that she had both the capacity and the space to rise above to love and that if her mother had felt love, understanding and felt supported in life, she would not have acted in the manner she had. People full of love do not hurt others. Hurt people hurt others.

Rose asked me if by shifting the way she saw her Mom did this mean she was she agreeing with what her mother did to her or how horribly she had treated her. I told her No and that she was meeting the situation with understanding at a higher level, and that she was having compassion for her mother. I asked Rose directly, if she really thought her mother would have behaved like that if she had felt good about herself, if she had felt loved and personally empowered. Rose answered “I guess not. I never thought about it like that”.

We concluded our conversation with Rose’s homework of holding her mother in her arms,in her mind, so that Rose could expand her own heart and include her Mom and herself, because what we give out we get back. I also reminded Rose that love can heal even after death and that if Rose wanted to heal and be free from pain, this would be of great benefit to her.

What about you? Who do you need to need to Rise Above to Love for? Maybe it’s a person or a situation. When you can expand your heart to shift the way you see the person or situation, and have compassion you will gain compassion and love for yourself too. Everyone wins here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Are The Holidays a Challenge For You?

“All human life has its seasons and cycles, and no oneโ€™s personal chaos can be permanent. Winter, after all, gives way to spring and summer, though sometimes when branches stay dark and the earth cracks with ice, one thinks they will never come, that spring, and that summer, but they do, and always.: โ€” Truman Capote.

Is this a hard time of year for you? Maybe you’ve lost a loved one or multiple loved ones or maybe you are alone, or you have had health issues, or this year has been very challenging for you. Whatever the case may be, remember that the sun always sets and better yet, it always rises again. There is always the HOPE of a new day, a new season and a new reason to keep the faith that things will get better.

Here are some ideas to help you shift your sadness, loneliness or pain.

When you are thinking of your loved ones that you have lost, why not try focusing on the beautiful and happy memories and ALLOW yourself to smile about them? They would want that. They would be saying, “Please, please, enjoy yourself, it’s my greatest wish for you!” Sometimes we think we are supposed to feel bad about them not being there and although it’s okay to miss them and grieve, it’s okay to have JOY from the memories that make our heart smile, and to en-JOY where we are now and who is in our lives now.

I too have suffered loss. By the age of 29, I had lost both parents and a soulmate in a 3 year time frame. Do I miss them? Yes, but I am also over-JOYED at the people in my life today, and even more empowered to make sure I make the most of the time that I have left. I have no time to waste and am grateful to be alive.

One of the best ways to rise out of our pain, is to give what you are looking for. If you are lonely maybe reach out to someone else and send a kind word, or make a phone call, or send a lovely message on social media to tell them that they are thought of at this time. What we give out, we truly get back tenfold! Give Love and you will get Love back. Give Kindness and you will get Kindness back. Give a helping hand and you will get a full heart. Be the love you seek and it shall seek you!.

I want to personally wish everyone reading this a Happy Holiday, or just a Happy Day today, whenever you are reading this. I wish for you more JOY, more LOVE and more LIFE!
