Have you ever worn a silly hat?
I ran across this Facebook memory from Oct. 1, 2013, and I must admit it made me cry for a number of reasons. It is about my daughter who was 7 at the time…. but really it’s all about life.
Here was the post from 2013:
So this morning Sivanna and I were cuddling in bed and talking about how one of her teachers told her it was disrespectful to wear her pink hat that she had so excitedly prepared for her outfit for picture day, but that she was ok with it. And then we started talking about what I was doing today. I explained that I was giving a talk to people on how to do more things that make them happy like wearing hats that they like or silly hats, or spending more time in nature, etc. Then I say “Well it’s time to get up” and she says “MOM you just said we should do what makes us happy and I want more cuddles!” Needless to say, we had more cuddles.
I thought this was worth sharing here for a few reasons.
I often think that at the end of our lives we are going to wish that we had lightened up more, wore those silly hats, tried painting pictures, wrote that book, or tried that Thai recipe. 🙂
Whatever, I bet we will wish that we did more of those things that we want to do or try silly or not.
I also think we will wish that we didn’t follow so many made-up rules and let go of our fears to express our true and authentic self. This post reminded me of how people can get thwarted in life when they just want to express themselves. We really are just spiritual beings having a human experience and we should be free to be who we want to be.
So let’s not wait 🙂 Let’s try things, let’s explore, let’s wear silly hats, a get a tattoo if we want. 🙂
And as for the cuddles, wow, just wow, that one is making me cry right now. Sure brings it all home doesn’t it?
Have a great day everyone!
