The Past is Real or is it?

Good morning everyone! I wanted to share with you how I felt when I read these words from Byron Katie.

But before I do, just to share some good news, I figured out another technological hack and here is the audio link from SoundCloud which is exactly the same verbal content as this written blog post. So one can listen in audio format or they can read or both ๐Ÿ™‚

Listen to Reality Is Always A Story of The Past.m4a by Maggie Holbik on #SoundCloud

Byron Katie works a lot with thoughts, and she calls it ‘The Work.’ So this quote of her says, ‘reality is always the story of a past.’

Reality is always the story of a past. I just love that! I say it this way however, ‘Reality is a story of the past.’

The reason I love this concept, is because I’ve been saying for years in my lectures, and in my coaching work, that the past is really just what we say it is!!!

We all have had experiences in our lives. We all BELIEVE that we have indeed had these experiences, and that they are true and real for us. And we SAY they are and that they are reality….. or at least our reality ๐Ÿ˜‰

What I find super interesting and fascinating is you can take several people, and ask them all individually about a situation in the past and receive a different version of the so-called Reality.

So let’s say for example, it was a family event or a Christmas dinner many years ago, and you have a group of siblings, and they start sharing about that Christmas dinner in say the year 2005, or whatever or whenever it was. These people will all, and I’ve seen this over and over again, these people will ALL have different versions of that story! And they might even get into a little push and shove match or a little arguing about who’s right or who’s wrong. And the reality is, who is really right?

My suggestion is, they are ALL right!!! They are ALL correct!!! Their story IS their reality. They have created that reality for themselves!

It is really powerful when we understand this, because this can free us from pain. If we look at our past and we say our reality was painful, and that we are triggered from the past, and that this or that has happened to us in the past, and we reflect on it, we end up making that reality we’ve created even bigger and bigger, and bolder and more and more vibrant! It then becomes larger than life so to speak!

I like to be selective in my reality of the past. I CHOOSE what I reflect on. In fact, I’m very much into living in the NOW now. ๐Ÿ™‚ It is just so free here. It’s freeing and JOYful and it releases me from a painful past!

And if I do CHOOSE to look at the past, I am picky and choosey. I select the memories or the realities that I’ve created that make me happy to reflect on. ๐Ÿ™‚

So there’s my tip for the day. And if you get a chance, look into the Work of Byron Katie… it is really awesome. She does amazing work. It is very, very helpful. I know it’s helped a lot of people.

Have a great Day.

Why Not UNchoose?

Maggie, no matter the temptation, you no longer think or say, “I’m anxious,” “I’m hurt,” or “I’m angry.” Because each of these feelings are choices, that can be unchosen, instead of reinforced. And you will be amazed,   The Universe This was my beautiful note from the Universe the other morning and I quite loved it.โ€ฆ

Dealing With Anxious Thoughts

“You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you”. Dan Millman

You might be thinking the above statement is an impossible feat, but I encourage you to think of thoughts in another way and it might be helpful for you.

Thoughts Are Things

We often say that “thoughts are things” and it is true. So if this is indeed true and thoughts are just things just like a coffee cup is a thing, a laptop is a thing, a t-shirt is a thing, etc. etc.

So with that said, if things are things, we may have things in our lives, but we don’t become our things.

Instead we USE our things. We use the coffee cup to drink coffee, or water, or tea, or to drink whatever we decide from it.

We wear the t-shirt but we don’t become obsessed with the t-shirt. We use it for a purpose and we take it off when we want to or when we are done using it for the day.

Therefore, if we looked at thoughts more as things that we can use for what we choose, just like the coffee cup, or the t-shirt we can take them off when we don’t want to think them anymore, just like the t-shirt.

Or in kind, like the laptop we can use our thoughts to formulate sentences, paragraphs, or even entire stories just like a laptop and its programs have the power to do!!

You get the idea here. USE your thoughts (the things) for your highest good and stop using them when they are no longer serving your or causing you pain.

CHOOSE New Thoughts!

The easiest way to pivot your thoughts is to divert them to new ones…. just like things. If you were wearing a t-shirt and spilled something on it, you would go and change it!

So change your thoughts to new ones!

Worry Not…

“If you want to test your memory, try to recall what you were worrying about one year ago today.”

– E. Joseph Cossman

Do you just love that quote like I do? Right?

How much time do we lose in life to worry? Whatever the answer that comes to mind, it’s too much!

It reminds me of the saying about not letting thoughts live rent free in our heads. If they are not positive thoughts that are serving us, they have to move out! Same for worry. Sorry, I don’t need you here in my life and head.

What do I need you might ask? How about filling that space with peace, comfort, JOY, happiness, trust, HOPE, laughter, and more?

Now that is a better plan isn’t it? ๐Ÿ™‚ And if we know that we probably won’t remember what we were worrying about last year on this day, we can see how unimportant a lot of worry really is.

All we have is the here and now. We hear that all the time but it really is true. Yesterday does not exist (not here anymore) and tomorrow, as we know, never comes and is not promised to anyone so let us live each moment in as much peace and JOY as we can and this means SORRY WORRY BUT YOU HAVE TO GO! ๐Ÿ™‚

From Worry to Peace – Change Trains!

Do you ever find yourself waking up to a train of thoughts about your day or your life? Does your mind race? Do these thoughts produce anxiety for you? Do you have thoughts something like I wish I didn’t start thinking this morning or I just want to go back to sleep?

We all have these thoughts as we start to wake up and start thinking about what we have to do, what is on or mind, or what we are currently worrying about. It’s common. The good news is that we can use this same technique of running thoughts to our advantage! Woo hoo!

What do I mean by this? Think of your thoughts like a train. They are moving and going from the next stop to the next or from thought to thought. They are moving and gaining momentum as they travel along. You get the idea.

So the easy thing to do is to change trains! Say STOP and then hop on the Gratitude Train. Start thinking of things to be grateful for. The bed you have to sleep in. That you opened your eyes one more time and you have been given another day on earth. That you have a job to go to. That you don’t have a job to go to. Be grateful for your dog or cat cuddled up beside you. The sounds of the birds chirping. Or the stillness. Or the feeling of your favorite sheets or blanket. โค That your heart is still beating. โค That the sun is shining. Or that the rain is refreshing the earth. That you can hear the rain…… etc. etc. etc. There are a zillion things you can find to be grateful for.

Once you get the gratitude train rolling you will start to feel better, your worry will fall away and best of all you will start to attract good things in your day and your life!

Also your smile ๐Ÿ™‚ will be brighter and your heart โค will be happier and you will have a ripple effect on all of those that you encounter so even your relationships will improve. ๐Ÿ™‚ It is a win-win any way you look at it.

I’ll see you on the Gratitude Train!

Stressed? Try this Quick Hack!

A Handy Go-To for Dealing with Stress

One of the things I have learned about putting things out to the universe or praying or whatever you want to call it, is that it works but there are ways that work better than others.

Today I will share my favorite go-to prayer that I use often and share with others often.

We all go through stressful situations in life. It’s not a matter of if we will, we will!!! Count on it! It is how we transition through these times that calls for the best use of our time and energy.

So without further adieu here is my go-to:

“Thank you God/Universe/Jesus/Source/You Fill in the Blank/ for already solving this problem for me.” And then you let it go! What we hold in our field with fear and dread stays attached to us and attracts more! This is why you want to declare that the problem or situation has been resolved and do so with Gratitude!  When you say it, put in lots of grateful feelings along with the words and mean it! And then you release it!

How do you let your problem go? You do whatever it takes to shift your attention off of it.  Go to a movie, read a positive book, watch a video that raises your vibe, talk to a friend about ‘something else’, not the problem, tell a new story about how things ARE working out for you, etc. etc. Do whatever you must do to detach and shift your energetic and emotional attention to the matter. And then you let the Source that you believe in, solve your problem. It is important to note, that your problem cannot be solved if you keep putting out the energies that are associated with what you don’t want!

So in a nutshell we say the prayer acting as if the problem has already been solved, we do so with mucho gratitude and then we let it go!

I hope you find this helpful and also helpful to know that we all go through stressful times in life. You are not alone.

In Love & Light
